Viewing- first time
Good for- A dark and intense viewing when you feel like following a storyline that unrolls gradually.
Fair warning- Extreme bullying (including of a sexual nature, drugs, alcohol abuse by minors, animal injury, child abuse, the usual horror level violence.
Thoughts-
I had watched the trailer, but I did not see the darkness of this movie coming.
Not much blindsides as you watch this. It's more of a snowball rolling downhill effect.
Excellent actress as Ma. Lots of depth to this story, although I didn't feel the extent of the emotional trauma, I think due to editing or wtiting. If I had to guess, there might be some of those emotional development scenes on the cutting room floor, so to speak.
It's filmed to follow the new girl in town and not Ma, but the depth is in Ma.
As someone who was bullied severely, this story should have triggered more with me, but it didn't. That in no way means it fell on it's face.
It's a good movie in the way that Falling Down was a good movie. You see it coming, but how it plays out is what you want to see.
No real gore, just some disturbing imagery.
